I can think of lots of reasons, none of which is worth spending money or time on to fix. If it's under warranty send to manufacturer for repair, if not find the nearest recycle center.

If it's under warranty send to manufacturer for repair, if not find the nearest recycle center. i refused to give up on it, and since i had the original charger ordered anyway...( i was using a dell charger, thats why it wasnt doing right. it fit, but wasnt right.) when i got the other charger it didnt do the same way..... so i installed windows, but ran into other issues. the screen would go black as if it was a bad backlight, because you could shine a flashlight and still see the window in the background.... it would only show about 10 seconds, then id have to close it and reopen it, as if i was bringing it out of standby. so after install of windows, i updated the bios, and all drivers, now its fine. glad i didnt give up on it, but was a bit of a chore. its the best one ive ever had now, dual core 2.27 Ghz with 4 GB. memory, ill put it in my signature later.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you. Replacing the charger was not on my list of possible fixes but then I didn't know you were not using a HP charger. Enjoy your new computer.
