Recently I've had trouble when booting up my computer. At first the Dell Support Assistant would come up and take forever to analyze with results of not finding any problems. So I got frustrated with that program and deleted it. So now I have to use the power on button about 3 times before my computer will boot up.

What model Dell pc? What OS? Under warranty?
Do you have a recent image which you can use for restore?

I've added a signature to my post with PC information. Not under warranty. I think my computer is about 5 yrs old.

When you start the computer what happens? Any error messages? More details please. Besides deleting the Dell Support Assistant what have you done if anything to try to fix the problem? Have you run a check disk? Scanned for Malware or Viruses? What antivirus program is installed?
I would suggest you reinstall the Dell Support Assistant after you resolve the start up problems as I'm sure the purpose of that program is to keep required drivers and Dell system software current.

When I first hit the power button it does nothing except the white battery light comes on and goes right back out. Same thing the second time I hit the power button. It seems to always go ahead and boot up the third time. No error messages. Before when the Dell Support Assistant would come on after the computer started, it would say my computer was having trouble starting so it would run a check. I let it start this way several times. I wound up getting frustrated with the DSA because after taking all that time checking it never found anything causing the slow start up.

Based on the model # I presume that this is a laptop, unplug it. Remove the battery and hold the power button for a few moments. Then put the battery back in and plug it back into power and see if it will start up. Also check to see if it will boot up in Safe Mode. If it does then this would likely indicate that something set to run at boot time is stopping it from booting up. Here also is support page for your computer. I've removed the battery and laptop has been booting up as it should. Thanks for you help. Several times within the past year as I'd be using my laptop (always use AC power not battery) I would notice the battery would start charging. I think I may have asked about it doing that on the forum but from the replies I got I don't think I was clear with my question so since everything else was working fine didn't pursue the issue. Could that have been leading up to this current problem since it seems like removing the battery has solved my issue?

The battery will do recharging off and on and that is normal. Have you put the battery back in to see if the computer will start up normally? If not please try that. Then to actually test the charge use the computer with battery only and see how long the charge lasts. Even if you keep the laptop plugged into the AC all the time the battery will eventually die and need replacing.

I've restarted the laptop with battery put back in and it started up normal. Now to test the charge as you suggested.

Not sure how long a full charge is suppose to be on my battery but it lasted at least 2 hours before I plugged the AC back in.

Every battery varies and of course this one is older but 2 hrs isn't too bad. Things should be ok now. The steps I gave you earlier were given to me by a Dell tech earlier this year when I was having a similar problem with my laptop. He told me that doing this removes the power from all components of the computer so that any connections between hardware and software which might somehow be somewhat corrupted or malfunctioning are severed and they then are re-established cleanly when the computer is powered back up and it also clears the computer's temporary memory which sometimes can cause problems. Hopefully things should be good for you now.

Remove the battery and hold the power button for a few moments. Then put the battery back in and plug it back into power and see if it will start up. You probably will never have to do that again really but if you do very easy. And of course if you Do forget you know where we are.
