An update on the situation regarding the re-release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update www.tomshardware.com/news/windows-10-october-2018-update-released-again,38263.html It is now available for anyone to download via check for updates in WU but caution is advised as four remaining issues are not yet fixed for some systems. I received the original update before it was withdrawn and there were no problems with it. Had this not been the case I would now still wait for it to auto download or until MS advise that everything is resolved.
It surprises me they have re-released it without fully fixing all issues.

I tried to fix Everton's link but could not get it to work. Here is direct information from Microsoft on this page:
Please note THIS caution from MS:
Note it says ADVANCED USERS, If you do not consider yourself an advanced user, one who knows his/her way around a computer, its operating systems and all possible "quirks" and problems then as Everton noted in her post WAIT.
Some people are still having problems with their Intel and AMD Display drivers after manually updating. There is also still a problem with some computers running Intel Audio Drivers
MS is working with both manufacturers to correct the problems.
Persons who use VPN for connections also may have connection problems following updates to v.1809
Others have reported total loss of Wi-Fi drivers following the update.
So, if you have not yet received the update automatically and you don't know if any of these problems apply to you generally would mean that you would not be not considered an advanced users and therefore DON'T use manual update. WAIT. Why? Because Microsoft IS blocking updates to those computers that, when scanned by the update process, show any one of these possible problems which may be why you have automatically received the update.
Again I say, WAIT.

I guess I won't benefit from this update, I think the last time I used Internet Explorer was in Windows 3.0. Has it improved yet <G>?

I guess I won't benefit from this update, I think the last time I used Internet Explorer was in Windows 3.0. Has it improved yet <G>? Uh...no. They don't even develop it anymore but have to release a security update to fix a zero day flaw!!!! Heck, MS doesn't even make you use IE anymore to do "whatever" on their web sites like they used to do. They really only do this for the benefit for those few, and we have some here, who for some unknown reason stick with IE and just panic at the thought that one of these days it will be gone.
Like you, I have not really used IE since I got my first computer back in 1995 and even then I didn't use it very long and then I honestly can't remember what I used but it was something my daughter recommended that she used in her job. Once Firefox was introduced back in 2002 then I stuck with it. I do use and like EDGE now. Didn't to begin with cause it was so "simplistic" I guess you'd say but now it works pretty much like all other browsers and I certainly find it much faster than most others. Firefox is still my default browser though

I had received notification with my weekly Krebs on Security Newsletter today This update is NOT only for Windows 10 users. This applies to Internet Explorer 11 from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as well as Windows Server 2012, 2016 and 2019; IE 9 on Windows Server 2008; and IE 10 on Windows Server 2012.
This really shows how flawed Internet Explorer is and has always been. This exploit IS being actively used in the wild and enables hackers to break into Windows computers simply by getting a user to visit a hacked or booby-trapped Web site. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
Update Internet Explorer and then for heavens sake stop using it!

I don’t use IE either - not since win 98 days. I don’t think MS keeps it on just for the benefit of those who don’t want to use Edge. Edge is only available on Windows 10 so they need to provide a browser for those still on 7 or 8.. also there are many corporate entities still using it as they prefer Windows 7. Also some sites that will not work properly on alternatives. As long as businesses and individuals prefer not to upgrade to 10 MS are obliged to keep IE as safe as possible. Those who decide to remain with earlier IE versions are asking for trouble. MS is hardly likely to recommend a non ms browser and there are those computer users who completely trust MS. Just as some trust Google.

It has about 30 different games installed and the suppliers can monitor it online and add/remove games depending on their popularity. They tend to do this overnight, so we are obliged to leave it powered up 24/7. It had to have a new hard drive fitted last week and I witnessed the replacement and reboot.
I was gobsmacked to realise that it is still running on Windows XP...........how's that for online security?!

LOL! an 18 year old state of the art! That is hilarious! Hope the users don't have to put in any personal information in order to use ths "bandit" because if they do they likely WILL get held up.
