Windows 10 settings has just told me I am running two AVs - Avira and Malwarebytes (the paid version). The Malwarebytes website also claims that "Malwarebytes protects you against malware, ransomware, and other advanced online threats that have made antivirus obsolete and ineffective."
Personally I'm inclined to run with this and remove Avira. Does anyone know of any reason why I shouldn't?
If this proves to be true, buying Malwarebytes two days before they switched from a one-off payment to an annual fee may prove to be the best investment I ever made.

I run the free version of Malwarebytes along with Avira. They both seem to do their job with no notices about two AVs.

Here is full documentation directly from Malwarebytes. Be sure to read everything there because their advice varies. It sort of goes back and forth...if you want to drop your free av then go ahead, if you don't want to drop it then don't. I found it a bit forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/191650-malwarebytes-3-frequently-asked-questions/?do=findComment&comment=1077438It sort of goes back and forth...if you want to drop your free av then go ahead, if you don't want to drop it then don't. Sort of conflicting recommendations there. You will have to decide. I run the free version of Malwarebytes along with Avira. They both seem to do their job with no notices about two AVs. Phil: This only applies to the Paid version of the program, Malwarebytes Premium Version. It does not apply to the Free version. The Free version is Not a protection program, it is a it is a manual scanner/removal program only. You would never receive any notices about running two AV programs because you are not. You are running One Real Time Protection AV program and that is Avira

I thought that is what I said - without the explanation as to the paid version.

I should explain that I only found this through Control Panel > Security and Maintenance > Security drop arrow, where the message is:-
"Multiple antivirus apps are turned on and up to date. Note that running more than one antivirus app at the same time can cause your device to run slowly."
Just to complicate it further. One of the supergeeks at Windowsbbs states "I would in the 1st instant uninstall Avast AV. Windows Defender is the builtin Security in W10 and is the complete package that will protect your comp. Try this and see if there is any improvement.I have 3 Desktops and my HP Notebook all running W10 and using Defender - NO problems." Not the first time I've heard that WD in W10 is a huge improvement on earlier models. Not that I'm considering turning off Malwarebytes.
As an aside. The Quote system here is really clunky. Do we have any control over that?

You have to make your own choice Paul. Personally I will not run Windows Defender. My choice. I also choose to not purchase the paid version of MBA-M. I just want the scanner/cleaner. I've run my computers for probably nearly 10 years using Avira Free and MBA-M free and have never had an infection or major malware attack. So that works for me. That's really all I can say.

I suspect what works for you (and me, up to now) is also largely due to the inclusion of SpywareBlaster in our defences.
I wouldn't purchase MB paid now either @ $60 a year. I got it for a one-off $20 with guaranteed lifetime usage. The minute they renege on that I will dump it like the proverbial hot potato.
FWIW MB paid has lately blocked me from a few dodgy websites, which Avira has never done (perhaps just because MB got there first).
And I don't know what happened to my earlier quote attempts. This one has worked just fine.

Since I don't run the paid version of MBA-M I cannot judge as far as blocking bad web sites but Avira Has done that for me several times, especially recently. I do agree though the key to blocking those sites IS SpywareBlaster, would never run a computer without it. Glad the quote button worked for you this time.
