I've had bad experiences in the past by checking for updates, (You know, if it ain't broke don't fix it!) so I've just been letting my computer be updated automatically.
I haven't had any updates lately and when I ran Winver it showed I have version 1803 17134.72
This seems quite far behind a lot of the members on this forum, and I wonder if there is anything I should be doing, or should I just let the updates remain on automatic?
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Mary

Hi Mary, good to see you again. Generally the advice to follow is let them stay automatic. I suggest you read all of this thread;
As you'll see this thread runs along for about a month and some of the posters had received Windows 18 version 1809 and others have not so you are not alone. Read the entire thread, especially the posts to and by member Vera at the end of the thread. There are good pieces of advice to follow there from several members. One thing you'll note is in order to receive updates your computer must be turned on and connected to the internet. If you only use the computer a couple hours a day then it will take more time to get these updates. How often and how long are you using the computer online daily?
Also one thing you can do to be sure that the computer is actually receiving updates is go to Settings, Updates and Security, Windows Updates and go to View Update History and see the dates of the latest updates received. Besides the update to 1809 there have been many other updates that we've received without that one being offered yet. I finally received 1809 on December 7th but there were other updates that I did receive before that date and I am sure you will see updates recently received too. Check and let us know.

I leave my computer on all the time. I'm using it several hours almost every day. I checked view update history and I had several cumulative updates on December 12th and December 19th, so I guess the updates for 1809 just haven't gotten around to me yet.
I'll just wait until the automatic updates kick in. Guess I just wanted reassurance.
Thanks, Mary

Since you've received all other available updates then have no fear, you will get it.

Since you've received all other available updates then have no fear, you will get it. I've got 2 Windows 10 machines that are on all the time, usually sleeping, and neither have been given updates to 1809 either Mary.... have the other updates, just not the "big one" yet Both were restarted this morning and got all other updates, including Firefox update on one which hadn't had the browser active for awhile.... so rest assured Mary, you are not alone in the boat..... Use my iPad, iPhone or MacBook mostly, and getting used to a new iWatch, so plenty to keep busy with and learning but I know that when Microsoft feels I'm ready my 2 laptops will get updated from 1803 to 1809 versions of Win 10....

I also did not get the update yet. I started to leave my laptop on for a few days, rebooting it every morning and evening. Got several updates but not the “Big One”. It will come in time and I shall wait keeping up my routine.

Remember this update was pulled when they found it caused problems for some users. They didn't start re-releasing it until a month later and then the decided to make it a much slower release so they can be sure that people don't have problems. You will get it so don't be concerned.

Only 6.6% of all Windows 10 computers have received the Oct. version 1809 update WOW! I don't think anybody should be worried at all.
Big thanks to budgall for finding this information, it should allay the concerns many folks have because they don't have this.
