I just received an email from Les Fixter, Dawn's husband telling me of her passing due to cancer this past Thursday. Many of you from World Start will know her better as Yorkshire Lass. She only made one post here because she was diagnosed with cancer shortly after the closing of WS and the opening of NWT.
Dawn was known for her lovely photos of flowers, her beloved dogs and the beautiful scenery near her home and cities that she and Les visited. She had a wonderful sense of humor and many of us here were blessed by that for sure. She was a loving, thoughtful friend who had sent me many Jaquie Lawson cards over the years, birthdays, Christmas, Easter and yes, for the 4th of July.
I had once told her of how much my husband and I love television shows from the U.K. and we had long conversations over what turned out to be favorites of hers too. She would often give a heads up to me when a new season of a favorite show had been released in the U.K. and therefore would soon appear here. She also gave me recommendations for new shows she had read were going to be shown here in the U.S. and we'd always check them out and most of the time they ended up on our list of favorites too.
She fought long and hard and had even been included in a trial of a new treatment that some other patients had success with but alas it didn't work for her. She will be sorely missed by her husband Les and family, her neighbors and by all of her friends from WS and from here.
I hope all who knew her will feel free to offer their thoughts.
Judy

I am so very sorry to hear this sad news. Dawn was a lovely lady with a great sense of humour and a very kind person. We shared our love of photography and once when she visited Liverpool (my home town) she sent me all the photos she had taken there. From a Yorkshire lass to a Lancashire lass she said. I hope her husband and family read this thread and know how much she was respected by us all. My own personal condolances are sent to them. Rest easy now dear Dawn Eve

This is indeed very sad news to read about a very special, wonderfully pleasant member of NWT and for many years World Start forums. For a very long time I always looked forward to postings from the Yorkshire Lass (Dawn) about her photo taking excursions in such beautiful country settings as well as waterfront settings and cities. Be it taking walks with her dog along nearby trails and into fields and seeing nature from her special eye that allowed us "foreigners" a chance to see the beauty of Great Britain or allowing us a chance to see what the city life was like for nearby communities or her vacation/holiday travels. What a great teacher she was as she identified plants, flowers, birds and bugs to make her excursions come to life for us fortunate folks who got to view and read her adventures. I'm 90% of Great Britain ancestry and have never been to Scotland or England and reading her postings gave me a feeling of "going home" in many ways... "Thank You, Dawn" and Bless your soul for all the beauty and joy you shared with us in the rest of the world.
A point for so many readers, and non-posters, Dawn never felt intimidated in asking a question about technology. From her many subject postings it afforded a great learning opportunity for all of us, not just Dawn, especially those of us who are a tad on the gray side of life and did not grow up with computers or technology (other than B&W TVs or party line telephones and RCA tube radios, etc.), and you could feel the joy she felt in learning something new with photos or computer operations... and she was happy to share that joy with the rest of us.
So please, in a way to honor our dear friend Dawn's memory, ask questions and give not only yourself but all of the readers at this forum a chance to have joy in learning something new about these contraptions that occupy a large part of our lives and will occupy even more in the future....Just as she so often did. And, give a thought and a prayer for Dawn's husband and friends and family so they can sense how warm and joyful Dawn made us feel by just being herself and a very special and beautiful being who shared so much beauty and joy and wonder here and formerly at World Start forum......

What a wonderful heartfelt post. Thank you BigToe for posting this. I just hope that Dawn's husband, Les sees this. My wife and I were lucky enough to meet with Dawn and shared a laugh and a fish and chips lunch. We always intended to visit her again but it was not to be.

What a terrible loss, she was a charming person and her passing is mourned by her many friends on W/S. Being a displaced Yorkshire person I especially loved her photographs of Yorkshire My heartfelt condolences to her family.
