I use Mailwasher when checking email. Today I got 209 emails of which 7 were good ones. I know that on some of them you can click their site and get a message on stopping them from that site. BUT-I am very leary of clicking them because of all the spam out there. Any way I can cut down on my email from these sites. The kind that offer weight loss, insurance, enlargment, etc. Thanks DICK

Are you marking them as spam with Mailwasher & then having it delete them BEFORE you download them to your computer? You have to keep your email program Closed and after washing Mailwasher will open your email program and allow the good mails to come in. Mailwasher won't work correctly if you don't do that.

That's how I do it. It's just a pain having to go thru all of them before I 'wash' them. DICK

That's how I do it. It's just a pain having to go thru all of them before I 'wash' them. DICK Dick how often do you check your email? Have you considered changing your email address? This would eliminate the junk for sure.
People often times don't want to do this but it is super easy AND very easy to tell everyone in your Contact list that it is changed.
You just send a blanket email from that NEW address to everyone you absolutely want to stay in contact with and tell them you have changed your email address and will no longer receive mail at the old one.
Of course list the new address in the email but also make it clear that they also need to dump your old one in their contact list and put in the new one.
Additional thoughts:
You mentioned this; . Unless you know with 100% security that the spam came from a legitimate web site or from someplace where you have requested information...DON'T do that. That is like continually answering junk phone calls..you answering tells them you are there and they keep calling, DON'T answer them. Same holds true with spam mail. Don't Open it, just Delete it.
Watch the web sites you visit, make sure there is no box anywhere that tells them you want to hear from them. If there is such a box be sure there is no check mark in the box.
What browser do you use? What email program do you use? Who is your email provider? I don't want your address just the name of the provider.

However as Judy said you need to go through the process of teaching Mailwasher what you consider to be junk. If you go through the process you will see that within a very short time that you will see little if any junk email. I have been a long time registered user of Mailwasher and now have a lifetime license, I don't remember the last time I found junk mail in my mailbox.

I agree 100% with budgall. Since you continue to receive so many unwanted emails I am wondering if you actually are using Mailwasher correctly. You only state But you do NOT say that you are Classifying these unwanted mails as spam before having the program delete them. You imply at least that you are just choosing Delete for them and having Mailwasher delete them before your email program is opened. That IS correct, to a point, but are you marking these mails as Spam which you do by using the Classify Column? Are you using the Classify Column? If you are not then you are not teaching Mailwasher what mails are spam.
Notice in the picture that the spam mails are Red AND that Thumbs Down is chosen and the good mails are Green and Thumbs Up is chosen.
This done by using Classify.

"What browser do you use?" Firefox "What email program do you use?" Thunderbird "Who is your email provider?" Earthlink I don't want your address just the name of the provider.
I have been using the classify column since I started using Mailwasher. (Many years ago!
"See this screen capture from the Mailwasher Instructions." I'll go here as soon as I post this.
Many thanks for the replies!!!!! DICK

You said this earlier:
In order to do that you have to open the mail, this tells the sender that you want the mail, even though you might go there and hit unsubscribe. Never do that. The fact you are getting so much spam says to me that you have done this too often. Just classify it as spam, Thumbs Down, in Mailwasher and let Mailwasher delete it BEFORE your Thunderbird is open.
Do you have the correct settings in Firefox to BLOCK trackers? A lot of spam can come from these.
Have you checked with earthlink on this? They may be able to help you.

I don't open the emails, had noticed on some of my good emails they have that option.
"Do you have the correct settings in Firefox to BLOCK trackers?" I went to FF under settings and didn't see anything for that.
I'll check with Earthlink.
Many thanks, DICK

Nope-no help. Still many spam emails. DICK Then the only suggestion I can give is contact your email provider or close out that email altogether and get yourself a new email address.

acker, if you Truly want to get rid of the spams, #1, NEVER open and email from somebody you don't know just to see what it says. If you open it, even if you mark it as spam in Mailwasher it will still come back because by opening the mail you tell the sender that you want more. #2. I reiterate what budgall has said, you must be willing to take the time to teach Mailwasher what to do. If you are not willing to do this then there just are no other recommendations

How do I teach Mailwasher to do that? Evidently it's something in the settings but I don't recognize anything. What is the asterisk next to "classify"?
Many thanks DICK

Many thanks DICK Have you checked out the help file. Click on help in the upper right hand corner. The help file will tell you everything you need to know about the program and how to configure it to suit your needs. Re the asterisk: According to the help file " The first column on the left indicates when an email is being evaluated or if you have performed an action on it."
