Can someone recommend where I can buy a new computer? This is for my daughter and she will be using it mostly for coding. She wants at least 16 gig of ram, 256 or better ssd. Does anyone know if this specs would work for coding? Or is there anything else she should be looking for in a computer for coding.?Thanks for any help.

How old is your daughter? Does she already know coding or is she just going to begin learning?
If she is just beginning to learn and is a student then be sure to check through the school itself because many mfgr's offer discounts directly through the schools for their products. I have purchased three computers for my grandchildren through their respective schools when they entered school. These all came from Dell and had discounts from the schools. My granddaughter did graduate with a B.S. in Computer Sciences, which included coding, and an additional certification in Cyber Security.
She really should be the one to pick out the computer. You'd be better off purchasing directly from the mfgr web site rather than a store which may not have what you need.
Dell is excellent, I have purchased from them for many, many years, 2 desktops and 6 laptops in fact. HP is also good. Dell and HP let you "build" the one you want and they have techs to work with you to ensure you get exactly what you need.Delivery is generally a week or less after you order, at least with Dell it is. Both of them have telephone sales so that you can easily work with their techs for the purchase.

A 256 SSD drive is way too small if it is the only storage for the computer. I too would recommend buying directly from the manufacturer, most big box stores are more interested selling you whats in inventory and not what you need or want. You might also want to check out a local system builder to custom build a computer for you.

Thanks Judy and budgall for the information. I will have her check the manufacturer websites and see what she can get.

Thanks Judy and budgall for the information. I will have her check the manufacturer websites and see what she can get. Post back here what she decides to get before she gets it for a yay or nay.

Thanks Judy and budgall for the information. I will have her check the manufacturer websites and see what she can get. I think you have missed the point. She would most likely be better off with a local system builder than a big manufacturer. You also haven't told us how much computer knowledge she has, and whether she is just starting coding or has previous experience. Is she in high school or college? These are all factors that would affect what she would buy. I also assume she wants a large conventional hard drive and plans to reserve the SSD for the operating system, because 256gb will go nowhere on its own.

Just thought I would let you know my daughter bought a Leveno laptop. It has 512 SSD and 1 T hard drive, 16 gb memory. She is in college and just starting to learn coding.
