For those who like and use Classic Shell here is news from Ask Leo. There is a new owner and a new name for the program.
I just uninstalled the old one and installed the new one, now called Open-Shell.
Read the information from the latest Ask Leo Newsletter. Very thorough and informative article.

Hasn’t open shell been around as a replacement for classic shell for ages ? I’m sure since the end of last year at least

Ivo Beltchev announced that he was discontinuing development of Classic Shell on Dec. 3, 2017 and making the latest version of Classic Shell open-source only and available for six months on Media Fire and after that on Source Forge and Github.
Aug 5, 2018 it was announced on GitHub that Classic Shell had been renamed to Open Shell and development would continue at Github.
I know that this has been talked about on tenforums.com but even there the latest information still speaks of the old name, Classic Shell, and Ivo Beltchev's version and not the newest version or the new name so don't think it has been publicized much. In fact their thread at tenforums.com is actually very much like the recent one here. I for one am glad that Ask Leo has given it some publicity concerning its rename and continuing development.

I just thought Leo was (unusually) late in promoting the new version. Any one checking for updates for the original Classic Shell site would have seen the redirection to Open Shell. It appeared on this site just a couple of weeks back where Phil gave a link newworldtech.freeforums.net/thread/871/any-classic-users. I agree that extra publicity is good. It has a lot of followers and has retained its popularity. The last time I used it on my laptop it was called Classic Start - after Classic Shell discontinued and before it was again renamed to Open Shell.

The re-direction to Open shell wasn't on the Classic Shell download page until it was announced on the 4th page of the Classic Shell Forumon July 29, 2018. Only thing on the download page, up until then, was the re-direction to the Classic Shell Forum. The renaming then was announced on GitHub on Aug. 5, 2018. So just about a year ago.

As Github is owned by Microsoft I don't understand why they don't just offer Open Shell as an alternate start menu within the OS for those that prefer it.

They've only owned it since October, 2018 so maybe they will do that.
