Major operating system updates are expected to be released by Apple in the not too distant future, most likely just before the introduction of the new iPhones and new devices in late Summer/early Fall 2019.... In the meantime, Apple has just released updates for recent iOS, Mac OS and Watch OS systems in preparation for the upgraded operating systems.... The updates include some new features, but more importantly they include fixes for security and bugs.... You can update the usual way of going to Settings > General > Software Update, then tap “ Download and Install.” Or if you have your settings for automatic updating you can do the steps to be sure you are current.... You can choose to do the install after the download or can click to do it later in the evening if that is more convenient (device being left on, of course ) and recommended to do the updating while on WiFi..... your time involved depending on your ISP connection speed. I took about an hour total to update 2 iPad Air 2s, 2 iPhone 6s+'s, a 2018 MacBook Pro and a Watch 4 ..... No problems experienced with any devices..... And in a rarity, Apple has also just released updates for older devices that many folks may still have in use since Apple products tend to last and last and last.... .... further information on which devices and the steps to do the updating can be found in the linked " Lifehacker" article: lifehacker.com/update-your-older-ios-devices-to-avoid-these-bugs-1836634908
