Do I need to sign up for this? I'm not sure what it is. It showed up when I opened my browser.

You will have to make your own decision on this.

There is a service called 'Have i been pwned?' address is haveibeenpwned.com/I put in an email address that I know from using that site has been compromised. It returned 3 results. The same address returned just one result on the Firefox Monitor. For that reason I have decided to stay with 'Have i been pwned?' as I already receive notifications from them (have done for years) I have no need for a Firefox account to sync my passwords etc so I shall not be signing up just to get the Monitor notifications. It is still possible to do random checks with the FF Monitor to check without providing contact info to yet another place. I do remember reading that Firefox Monitor obtains it's breach information from HIBP anyway, but if they do I can not explain why all 3 events for my email were not reported by Firefox Monitor. Whatever anyone decides to use it is never a bad idea to know about these breaches and then promptly change any passwords that are connected to that address.

I feel the same way and chose not to create a Firefox account since it was first offered. I have never felt the need for it. I am sure others may find it helpful but I just found it unnecessary. To each his own of course.

I have used Have I Been Pwned before and I also found it to be excellent. I would recommend it for sure.
