I received a message in my email saying this is from Yahoo mail.
Good News! There's a new way to set up your AT&T email account in email apps that will keep your information even more secure> Please update or upgrade your email apps IMMEDIATELY Failure to do so will interrupt your access to your email account.
I did call Yahoo and the gentleman said my email was corrupted and 7 people were looking at mymail.
Can someone help me to fix my account. I am not the best at computers so will have to have some patients. I have changed my email account but the gentleman said that won't help, he wanted to fix my email for $100.00. Can someone help me

Are you actually using some sort of Mail App or Yahoo Web Mail? This all sounds a bit suspicious to me. Never heard of Yahoo charging for securing your account. Take a look at the information on this GOVERNMENT link
now this all "could be" legitimate but I am a bit suspicious. Please answer my question concerning how you access your mail...Mail App or Web Mail? Until we know this answer we cannot offer much help.

After reading the link in Judy's response, I don't believe that the person from Yahoo you talked to was from Yahoo. You said you changed your email account and hopefully you also changed your password. Hopefully you did not reveal your new email to this person from "Yahoo". The fact he offered to fix the problem for $100 is another indicator that it is most likely a scam. To my knowledge Yahoo does not charge for support and Judy's link also mentioned that fact. My guess is that this is just an extortion attempt. Please answer Judy's questions and you may want to a scan of your computer for malware and viruses.

Further research showed me there is such a thing as Yahoo Account Pro which costs $5 a month. It is part of Verizon Media.
Yahoo Account Pro
Do you have this?
Then they do provide phone support service BUT there is NO additional charge and they will NOT email YOU...you must contact them if there is a problem.

I believe the email message is legitimate and concerns added security for at & t email accessed via a yahoo mail app. Was there a link in the email ? Possibly a scammer could use the same message to send recipients to a bad link. It would be helpful to know how you connected to the yahoo gentleman because the $100 charge is definitely suspect. Also can you say what you did to ‘change’ your email account. As far as I can see all you need to do is make sure your email app is up to date but there could be more to it. My main concern is that you were asked to pay to have your email ‘fixed’ You do need to reply to the questions you have been asked here.....and don’t part with any money.

I thought it was a scam too, but wanted to make sure that is why I ask you, folks, I keep up with all my updates and run my Malware and CCleaner, and SUPERAntiSpyware all the time just to make sure I have nothing, I ran my Malware this morning and shows clean. Thank so much for all your help.

The email I went from sbcglobal to Gmail forgot to tell you all of my emails I just signed up for a new account and changed my account on my bills etc. I got his number from the internet, I have not paid any money and really don't intend to, that is why I ask you, folks, right away before I did anything else. I don't have Yahoo account pro. I hope I have answered all you questions,
Thanks Linda

It sounds like you have everything sorted Linda and certainly you do all you can to protect your information. Do you access your gmail account directly on the web ?
For anyone using AT&T they are suggesting that an email app that provides access with OAuth and secure mail keys is used. OAuth encrypts your username and password to protect your info from hackers and fraudsters. I posted a link but it would not work so I have removed it.

Want to say that I agree with all advice given and actions taken here but want to point something out; Linda you first said: Now because of that we, or at least budgall and myself presumed you were using Yahoo mail because that is the only information we had. Now today we found out that you were not using Yahoo mail but actually had an SBC Global email (ATT) and changed to Gmail. Since it appears you didn't even have a Yahoo account, why did you call Yahoo for assistance? Did the email tell you to do this?
Since this fellow you called simply by doing an online search for a number "claimed" to know your "email was corrupted and 7 people were looking at my mail" this says to me that this all was a scam from the beginning. Unless you were a paid Yahoo Pro customer there is no way he could have accessed your email account enough to know that it was "corrupted" and 7 people were reading it and then, if that was true he would not have asked for $100 to fix it.
Sorry but I believe this all was a scam and a very common one from the link I gave earlier.
