Here is a very Interesting and Excellent article from this weeks Ask Leo which certainly applies at this time of year. I put it in theis section so that more people would see it AND this is where people come when they have problems, no matter how they are caused.
I have to say, I agree with him 100%, when he says "hey should be more concerned about the security of their information offline."
I say this because most members of my family have shopped online for many, many years and not one of them has ever had their card stolen or have their computer hacked due to online shopping...BUT...both my granddaughter and grandson had their credit card numbers stolen and USED after they used them in stores in malls and their mother had her credit card stolen and also USED when she purchased gas while returning from a funeral in another state.

I to have shopped for years on line without any issues. Years ago I got a credit card setup by IBM to issue cash rewards to dealers who sold certain IBM products. The card has a low 4 digit credit limit and is the only card I use for all online purchases. In the twenty years I've had the card I have only had one charge to the card (less than $10) that was not mine. I monitor this card several times a week and when I saw the charge I contacted the bank and they immediately reversed the charge and reissued a new credit card. Several weeks later, I received notice from the bank that the charge was an internal clerical error and not an attempted fraud charge.
So in my opinion online shopping is safe and totally agree with Judy's quote above.

I had my credit card stolen once, when my entire wallet was stolen years ago and frankly the loss of my drivers license, SS card were a greater problem than the loss of the credit card. Other than that I've never had it stolen and I almost exclusively do my shopping online. My granddaughter and my grandson both had their card numbers stolen and USED when they shopped in malls. Granddaughter bought a pair of shoes, left the mall & went to her car and received notification from her bank that her card number was being used all over the mall! She told the bank to lock the card, she called the police who met her in the shoe store. Thief was the clerk who rang up her shoes! She was still in the Mall and was arrested in fairly short order. Grandson had his number stolen when buying a book but it wasn't used again for several days and it was used in another state! My daughter had hers stolen when filling up her car in another state. By the time she got home several hours later her card had been used in California to purchase an expensive set of drums! None of them had to pay for the charges but the only arrest done was the shoe clerk in the Mall. Obviously she wasn't very bright.

Most Banks and Credit Unions will issue a card for a certain amount if you are really worried about it. I like the wife have done it for years and (knock on wood) have never had a problem.

I shop online. I really feel I should warn others though - strange things happen. Sometimes one finds oneself purchasing things that really are not essential, and would not have warranted a trip to the shops. It is SO easy to make a few clicks Beware of shopaholic addiction ! I have to say I have never had any problems shopping online. Where possible in 'real shops' I use Apple Pay with my phone - saves producing a card and no need for a pin.

I truly hate shopping in stores, always have! Never go to a store unless I know I really need something and then I have a formula; if I find a parking place fairly near the door then that means I was supposed to go there, if I don't find one...I go home and try again another day ...OR I go home and look for it on Amazon!
