A bit prejudiced I know but pleased to see my long time favorite is still a top choice.

The report got it wrong in the Avast review. The password manager is free and does not expire as stated. I believe there is a more advanced paid version but the free one is built in and does not need to be installed separately. Lifewire should have got that right so I wonder what else they got wrong.
Just a question - isn’t the inability of avira to protect browsers other than Firefox and chrome browsers quite a large disadvantage for those that use neither ?

I wonder what else they got wrong. Just a question - is the inability of avira to protect browsers other than Firefox and chrome browsers quite a large disadvantage for those that use neither ? Avira also has browser protection for Opera but all of that is optional anyway and I have never used it on either Firefox or Opera. I honestly don't use all those "bells and whistles". I want an av program Period. Plus all those extras can truly slow things down. If people want to use them then that is fine, I just don't happen to want them.
Like I said, I don't use any of them but I have tried each one out for a period of weeks so I also wonder about their statement that says "Add-on components often require fee to be fully functional." I have tried them all and have never had any of them require a fee to increase whatever it is they are doing. So I will echo Everton and wonder what else they got wrong.

No comments from me on the listed software as I never used any of the programs listed except for testing purposes on a computer that's purely a test software only computer.
The post was made to provide info about available free antivirus programs for Windows.
For the curious, my antivirus software of choice is Vipre Advanced Security.

The post was made to provide info about available free antivirus programs for Windows. For the curious, my antivirus software of choice is Vipre Advanced Security. Hey, it provides valuable information for everybody. Most of what was said about the programs we know is good, a few things were questioned but of course that info comes from the particular reviewer. We honestly don't know if Mr. Fisher did all the reviews himself or relied on others to provide him the information.
It is a good overall view for basic information.
I am now only using Avira on my two Windows 7 computers and will of course continue to do so. I have been using the built in Windows Defender on my Windows 10 and am very pleased with it.

Appreciate the information also budgall. Many of us continue to use what we are used to without considering any alternative so it is good to see what others have to offer. Since ditching Norton’s many years ago I have stuck with Avast. However on my lesser used laptop I uninstalled it several months back and it is using Windows Defender with no complaints. Maybe I will eventually use that on my main pc. After all it is built in and specifically designed for use with Windows 10, is free and unobtrusive, never pestering us to upgrade. I am and always have been a believer that the most effective anti virus component is common sense. Like browsers, it’s best to use what anti virus programme suits us individually. www.howtogeek.com/225385/what’s-the-best-antivirus-for-windows-10-is-windows-defender-good-enough/
