I have a few tabs pinned to tab bar. when I open home page, which is my incoming mail box a (new tab) shows on right side. How do I stop that tab from showing? Clicking on the tab shows it to be my mail, and I don't need it.

What you are seeing are called Pinned Tabs.
Here are instructions for removal directly from Mozilla

The Tabs that are pinned, I want to keep. It is the unpinned tab that I want to get rid of. There was no check in the box you showed. I already knew how to pin and unpin tabs.

Then I guess don't understand what exactly you are saying and other than hitting the "X" and closing it that is the only way I know to close a tab. What version of Firefox are you running? What add-ons and extensions do you have on it? Very often if a browser doesn't work right, Firefox or something else, it is possibly out of date or has an extension or add-on that is not made for that version

I do use the x to close the tab. FF up to date. Extensions are: Adblock+, yahoo homepage. Plugins: Open H 264 video codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc, Widevine content module provided by Google Inc. These are all that show.

You say everytime you open Firefox this Tab is there also, besides your chosen home page? I truly have never seen anything like that unless I did NOT choose to close all tabs before I close the browser.

I don't know how to further explain, so will just leave things as they are and X out of the unpinned tab as I have been doing.
Thanks again.

"Think" I have may discovered what caused this problem for you and that is when you chose your Home page you also had your Email open in a 2nd tab so that would tell Firefox to open both tabs.
In order to correct this; Go to the web page that you want to choose as your Home page (the ONE page that will open when you open Firefox) Make sure that ALL other tabs are closed, leave open just the one you want for your home page.
Then go to Tools, Options and click on HOME. There you can choose your preferred Home Page. You need to choose Use Current Page and this WILL show if there is only One page open.

How do I make sure all other tabs are closed? Will I lose the pinned tabs. If I have not clicked on any of the tabs, they would not be open would they?

Pinned tabs unless they are open would not be affected. "X" out of ALL open tabs except the page you want for your home page, simple as that
