As much as I like howtogeek it seems they just target Avast in this article, possibly with good reason. Here is one less biased and very informative restoreprivacy.com/antivirus-privacy/We have to remember nothing is really ‘free’ and Is paid for somehow. It’s always a good idea to read the privacy policy of any program installed. Avast also owns CCleaner and AVG I use Avast and CCleaner. I have the data sharing component in Avast disabled. It’s so easy to do and should be done during installation. Anyone concerned may consider using Windows Defender which is considered a reliable anti virus and is already installed.

I have been using Windows defender with 7, 8, 8.1 and now 10. Never had a problem.
