I finally decided to join WW after seeing my daughter in law successfully lose over 50 pounds over the last 18 months. The problem I have is it is very difficult for my fat fingers to navigate the tiny keyboard on my LG phone. So, I am looking for a tablet (between 7 to 10 inch) that I can use both at home and out shopping or eating. Since the only app I plan to have on it is the WW app, it does not need to be very powerful I do not think. It must have a camera for bar code scanning and must have WiFi. I can not think of what else should be needed but since a tablet would be something new to me, I would like suggestions from y'all that have experience with them. One other thing is I prefer an android based unit.
Thank you all in advance for your input and suggestions!

I don't use a tablet but my husband has used a Samsung Galaxy Tablet for a long time. In fact he is on his second one. He loves it. Most recent one he purchased via Amazon.

I have an iPad mini. I love it. Earliest model 2012 and I have never had a single problem with it. I use it every day.
i have returned to edit this as I missed that you prefer an android device.
Sorry !!!

Paul ... Don't think you can find a tablet that is not WiFi capable, presuming you will use your cell phone as a hotspot or have WiFi at home or anticipate any dining establishment to have Wifi.... otherwise, you'll want cellular connectivity to be able to go on-line but those are a bit more expensive and require a cellular contract with your/a cellular phone company... But many to most restaurants now have WiFi networks and a WiFi tablet should serve you well.... You're thinking is spot on for the 7-10 inch screen size as larger ones tend to get a little uncomfortable or difficult to be mobile with due to size and weight or to fit into carry-on luggage if flying.... You can get an Amazon Fire 7" tablet for $49 (USD), or an 8" Amazon Fire Tablet for $79 (USD) or a variety of Android tablets starting around $49 and up for 7" devices. 10" tablets can be had many places for $99(USD) and up... Storage capacity may not be a problem if you only intend to use the Weight Watcher app, and just an 8GB device would suffice, but you likely will eventually want to download more apps, books, movies or music and would want either a larger hard drive in the 32GB size or have the capability to use a Micro SD storage card so would need slots for Secure Digital memory cards, such as the Fire Tablets have...... Nearly all come with two cameras on them so you can scan bar codes with the camera on the back or take pictures; use the smaller camera on the screen (front) so you can do selfies or FaceTime, Skype, Google Duo or similar face to face phone calls with family members or friends.......
We started with Google Nexus 7" tablets when first retired and doing lot of traveling and now use Apple iPads Air 2's with 9.7" screens that are 4 years old but still getting the latest updates from Apple and never have had any problems (iPad Mini's have the 7" screens and are also super), but since you prefer android devices you can stick with off name brands, Asus, Amazon Fire, Samsung, and more....... you'll find tablets from very cheap to those capable of being called computer replacements for quite a bit of money..... Always best to start out cheap so you can get the hang of using and after you decide what you really want to be able to do with a tablet, then you can get more powerful and higher quality tablets (higher prices of course). Many now have dictation capabilities so you don't have to worry about typing on a small onscreen keyboard or an attachable almost full size keyboard that connects by blue-tooth to the tablet.... You'll get spoiled with dictation and just talking your typing once you get the hang of it.... or at least use it for your Internet searches and not worry about typing.... If you turn the tablet sideways in landscape mode so the screen rotates to wide mode the onscreen keyboard of course enlarges and the typing is easier, but holding it in portrait mode you may find it easier to single finger "hunt and peck" or even type with your thumbs.....
You should stop in at a WalMart, or a Best Buy, or a Costco/Sams Club or any computer shop nearby and try out what they have on display so you will get to be "comfortable" with the tablet to be sure you'll like one..... for the needs you expressed you quite likely will be very happy with a tablet and will find yourself taking one with you on many a trip to have available to take pictures, research, get directions, and many uses you haven't imagined yet since not having one at the moment. My wife is non-techy but uses her iPad for shopping and research and reading..... I wouldn't be without one.... And for your first one, you can find one perhaps a year or 2 old, still brand new with full warranty, and a little cheaper than the newest/greatest one that most stores push you toward, particularly since you express that you will only be using for Weight Watcher app, perhaps checking menus and calories in dining out, etc...... Good luck and lots of enjoyment wished for your choice..... They are quite addictive .... 😊 ;-)

Wow bigtoe! That is exactly the input I was looking for. After much searching, I decided on the Amazon Fire HD 32G. The price was right and I get it tomorrow.
Thanks to all for your help.

Glad we could be of help Paul.... As you saw, many of us use different tablets but the common denominator is "happy" with our tablets..... Like Everton's 2012 released iPad mini with 7" screen, my 2014 released iPad Air 2 with 9.7" screen is used daily, extensively, and has been trouble free in all these years and anticipated several more years if I can last that long..... I hope you find similar fortunes with your Amazon Fire tablet.....
In noticing the new ones have Alexa installed, you can control totally by voice and if have a "smart home" or "smart" devices like lights, door locks, thermostat, garage doors on your home smart WiFi system, you won't even have to get out of your easy chair to utilize those devices.... although, WW likely would like to see you get up now and then and walk to those controls to lock the door or turn on/off a light..... LOL..... With apps for those devices, you can check from anywhere in the world if on a WiFi connection that your home devices are functioning correctly, doors locked, or garage door closed, or get a notification that a door was just opened, etc., so you know a family member arrived home safely. With 32GB of memory you can certainly use more free apps to make your life and travels even more enjoyable with maps, music, books and movies as well as lots of online news media, and slipping in a mini SD card you likely won't be able to ever fill it up with things..... Amazing convenience provided by the tablet, hoping you get a lot of enjoyment from your new "toy"...... Al

I am sure once I get used to it (being Android) I will start adding lots of apps such as ibota. I am quite familiar with my Win 10 desktop and have no problem getting around in it. Android is going to take some getting used to though. As you mentioned, WW would surely like to see me more active but after 5 back surgeries and having two shot knees (surgery coming soon for them) I am rather dormant right now. LOL I do have a google hub which I currently use for lights and planning to add more stuff soon.
Thanks again for your kind and insightful generosity.

Nothing difficult about it at all really. The "getting used to" part, for me anyway, was having to type with my fingers on a screen and not on a keyboard. Be aware that some Android apps do not work on Amazon Fire Tablet but you will be alerted to this prior to attempt download and then it will not download. Amazon has its own apps though and I checked, there is a WW app in Amazon apps but there is not an app available for ibota for the Fire Tablet.
