I read constantly in my monthly computer magazine and also online about the number of people who seem to have all sorts of problems after Windows 10 updates including the latest. These range from peripherals ceasing to function correctly, software problems, desktop shortcuts disappearing etc etc etc.
I have never had any problems after Windows 10 updates.
Am I just lucky or do others cause the problems themselves?

Barney, I don't recall ever having problems, or at least major problems. "Sometime" there may have been what I would call an oddity that occurred after an update but those were generally corrected after a restart but honestly nothing really comes to mind. The only problems has been the occasional failure of an update and those usually did complete at a later time. I've never tried to force a failed update I just wait and let the computer try it automatically later on. The few that never did work usually ended up being pulled back by Microsoft because most folks were having problems, meaning the problem did not lie with the computer but the update itself.
Many times the actual computer itself is out of date with old drivers or software that has not been updated so if the updates have something to do with audio, video, etc. and those pieces of hardware are out of date then the user will have problems with the Windows updates. Some folks have problems just because their internet connection is lousy ( no fault of their own, maybe that is their only option) and you do need a good/fast connection to be able to download so this causes problems for some.
Users really need to keep an eye on their Windows updates and check often to be sure they don't have failed updates, if they do then try to get them manually.

I also have never had a problem with Windows updates. The only updates that have failed for me were ones that Microsoft ended up pulling from the update cycle. The video card drivers in my computers are automatically updated by the manufacturer so I always have the latest drivers. I manually update my network card drivers a couple of times a year. Other drivers rarely get updated. I have to see someplace a newer driver is available to update them. I don't go looking for them. Having a clean computer (virus/malware free) also goes a long way in limiting Windows update problems.

I guess it just seems a lot of folk have problems because those are the ones we hear about. Even with a slow connection I have fortunately had no problems either but I always keep in mind there is always a first time !
I do believe there is some truth in saying for some they are at fault themselves due to not bothering with regular maintenance etc.

I have a friend in Australia who I know for a fact has not updated his computer for at least three years because ' the updates use up too much of my data allowance'
