I have never used Edge as a browser. I wish to try it but cannot find a way to add a URL to the W10 desktop. I used to be able to drag the address to the desktop and that would work. I search edon the internet and there are lots of similar queries but most I could find was That yes but "you can add a URl to the desktop but no actual method to do this. Any help would be most appreciated

It works exactly the way it always has worked for all other browsers, I just did it to test it in fact and it worked just fine. Place your cursor in the address bar, Right Click Once and the address will turn blue. Then drag it to the desktop.

Thanks for responding Judy but I could not get it to work. I placed the cursor on the address bar Held the right mouse button down It went blue as you described. I dragged it to my desktop and let go of the left mouse button and nothing happened. I used to just put my cursor on the logo to the left of the adders and drag it where I wanted it on the desktop and it was so simple. That still works in my other Browsers

Sorry guys, don't know what to tell you. I don't use desktop shortcuts but certainly had no problem doing it.

Never had any problems with any other Browser. The reason I don't like Microsoft is that the are always changing good working systems to complicated systems that nobody likes. If it works well leave the thing alone.. I guess I will just go back to Duck Duck go

All I did was hover my cursor on the URL of the website I chose and then held down the left mouse button and dragged the URL onto my desktop.
As Judy said, Duck Duck Go is a search engine not a browser.

It certainly works with Edge for me as well. After highlighting the address with a right click make sure when you drag with the LEFT button you are placing the cursor right on the blue highlighted part, not just a blank space.
If that still will not work then do it this way - highlight the address and right click and copy it - then right click any part of the desktop and select New/Shortcut. Paste the address in and click Next - then type in a name for it and click Finish and you will have your desktop shortcut.
Just as a matter of interest the drag method does NOT work for me with Internet Explorer and never has done. Also I may be way off track here but I believe it did not work for me in the old Edge - so maybe the new Edge is a requirement - if anyone has not updated to the new one maybe they could confirm this.

Hi Eve, I've always done this in any browser just by left clicking and holding on the padlock symbol on the left of the URL and then dragging to the desktop. No need to highlight anything.

In the "new" Edge browser it works great.. It wasn't true for the original install of w10. The new Edge was released a month or so ago to download yourself. It has also just been added to some of our MS updates. When it was first offered I downloaded it to my laptop only.. and I really like it after getting it fixed to my liking. Several days ago MS added it to the update on my PC. That was a surprise... So glad they made the move as I was getting very lazy about installing it. myself. It works like a charm. Just grab the "padlock" and drag/drop it where you want. Can be d/l now or you can wait for MS do it for you. www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

I know several who were until I convinced them not to use it. Heck, there are actually some businesses that still are using XP!

Sorry I am late in replying but medical problems intervened. Tried all those things and found Edge so annoying and I have no wish to spend time learning convoluted applications that I gave up. I can simply drag the small icon on the left side of the address and drop it on the desktop using my Google Chrome. Thanks for the input folks

Thanks for the input folks Whatever browser suits each of us is the ‘best’ one for us. Having an alternate one installed is always a good idea and Edge is always there if you need it.. Th new Edge is now my main browser with several others to use as backup ones.I have not used IE as a main browser for very many years. To each their own .
