My brother is having an issue with his Google Chrome browser using Yahoo home page. In the upper left where the "Y" symbol shows solid once the page is loaded, it will then start flashing with the blue circle spinning while at the bottom left of the screen it shows "waiting on comet.yahoo.com". He said this just started happening recently and is annoying.
Does anyone know about this or how to fix it?
Thank you all, Paul

He has malware on his computer and must do a cleanup. The malware is called Comet Arcade malware. He got it on his computer because it was bundled with other free programs that he downloaded off of the Internet. To begin the clean up he needs to follow all of the instructions given on our Preliminary Cleanup Steps in our Virus and Malware Help section. He needs to follow those steps exactly, those are the very best steps and software to use. There is no quick fix, no one program for removal although you will find lots of junk programs that claim to do this, don't believe them. Go with the legitimate, successful and most recommended programs linked in the Preliminary Cleanup steps. All of them are Free. newworldtech.freeforums.net/thread/10/preliminary-cleanup-stepsThere may be other steps needed after that but there is no way to know that for sure until all the recommended steps have been completed. All of those programs are very easy to run.

Thanks Judy. I will forward this to him and have him call me when he gets it so I can help walk him through it. It may be a while before I post back as he lives in Florida and no telling how he will be affected by Irma.

Paul You're welcome, right now though his infected computer is the very least of his worries. Tell him to turn it off and do as directed by the Governor and prepare for the hurricane.

If he has created a drive image using Macrium or Acronis etc. before he got the infection, then he should be able to restore his OS using that image. He will, of course, lose any data since the date of the image so again hopefully he will have backed up important data to use to bring the restored OS up to date.
This is such a simple way around troubleshooting issues I am continually amazed that most people do not use drive imaging.
We all hope and pray for the people of Florida who seem to be soon in harms way.

My apologies for taking so long to get back. First of all, my brother lives in Pensacola and thankfully was not affected by Irma. He told me he ran the scans you mentioned and was still having trouble so he checked his installed programs and noticed one called goto or gofree so he uninstalled it and his troubles were ended. I told him he should probably still post the logs from the scans just to see if he ran them properly or if maybe he needed more help. However, since he is not having problems now, he did not feel it was needed. Like the old saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water but can not make it drink" Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Well Paul, you've done what you could so not much else you can do. It would be good to see the scan logs but also he really should now run the programs one more time. There is some malware that won't remove all the way unless the questionable program is manually removed too. It may leave behind bits and pieces that should be removed too. Glad he made it through Irma safe and sound.
