Some of them are burning thru my limited bandwidth. Would rather download them when I am somewhere there is secure wifi. I.E.: Friends house.
And puter keeps showing that it can't install updates. The following was the last message I received:
"Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703 Waiting for download
HP - Printer - 2/10/2017 12:00:00 AM - 20.79.1.6594 error"
Thanks DICK

Do you need to uninstall this tweaker to download the updates when you are ready to or or there something within the program that can temporarily switch it off ? are you able to manually download essential updates when you want to with this installed ?

Do you need to uninstall this tweaker to download the updates when you are ready to or or there something within the program that can temporarily switch it off ? are you able to manually download essential updates when you want to with this installed ? Reading the comments on the posted link, it appears that an uninstall is required to re-enable the down loads. Instructions are given on how to uninstall. Also it appears to not work on latest Windows 10 release, again per the comments

I guess many using it may not have the latest release 1703 anyway unless they are uninstalling /reinstalling the program each time they want to install updates. It would appear the program has not been updated since it was created In December 2016.
Being able to time critical updates to suit the users having a capped data limit I can see would be advantageous to them but disabling updates completely would not be a good idea. I am on a capped plan and have 2 machines to keep updated but never have a problem going over my limit. I have seen complaints about machines restarting in the middle of someone’s work. You are warned when a restart is imminent and can designate times when your macihine will not be in use for it to restart so I don’t see that as a problem either.

I have been reading this with great interest and my personal opinion would be folks like acker1 with limited bandwidth use the suggestion given by Everton; I would be very concerned about using a program to block updates and is one that has to be uninstalled in order to allow updates. I think this would really put the computer very much at risk. Most Windows updates are for security reasons, for instance those released just this week included 62 security vulnerabilities in Windows, Office and other software and 28 of them were labeled “critical” — meaning malware or malicious attackers could use the weaknesses to break into Windows computers remotely with no help from users and one of them was already being exploited in active attacks before the release of the patches. Here's also some info about setting things for updates to at least give you come control over them; askleo.com/keep-windows-update-rebooting-use-computer/

There is another good explanation of the metered connection option here www.howtogeek.com/223068/what-you-need-to-know-about-windows-update-on-windows-10/From what I understand activating this setting ensures that updates are not downloaded on the current connection but will do so on another connection when one is available. To further save bandwidth you can disable the MICROSOFT updates by unchecking "Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows" This setting is found in Settings/Update & Security/Windows Update/Advanced Settings. aker1 I have no idea why you are getting the message that Update 1703 is waiting for download. I believe this update was released in April so you are quite behind. I have had a further 19 "Quality Updates" since then You may want to consider having someone install all these updates for you or go somewhere where you have unlimited bandwidth and plenty of time to get your computer properly up to date. You will have problems if it is not not up to date because as mentioned above most of the updates are for security reasons. Not Up To Date = Not Secure.

Sorry, but this program is not Winaero. The link where this is being discussed is the Winaero Blog site but it was not created by the creator of Winaero Tweaker, Sergey Tkachenko who is also the writer of the blog. Winaero Tweaker is a program I use and highly recommend. The program being discussed is an entirely different program called Windows 10 Update Disabler which was developed by PainteR and is available for download on the Winaero site under the heading Tools By Other People and it was last updated in November, 2016. So it is very nearly a year old. Lots of updates likely missed by people who installed this and then never uninstalled it so that they could get very necessary and critical updates Honestly don't think I would recommend this but to each his own.

I think it has been downloaded but wouldn't install. Where can I find a list of the MSN downloads on my puter?
I'll read thru the suggested sites.
Thanks to all for your help, DICK

Also did "winver " and the results are below. Your version is two years old and you need versions 1607 and 1703 and then the newest version, 1709 will be released anytime now.

Actually, you use 2 programs to do the updates. First you get the program called Update Disabler. Then you use a program called Windows Update Mini Tool to get your updates. It works with Win 10 1709 too. I am using it. And yes 1709 has been out to manufacturing for a few weeks. Just have to know where to go to get it. It will officially be out on Tuesday I guess.Works perfectly on my machine.

The OP has enough trouble just getting updates...he is two versions behind now as it is the last thing he needs to be doing is installing two 3rd party programs to "mess with" updates. That is just asking for more trouble than he already has, which is a lot. Sorry but my advice would be for him to go some place where he can actually connect to a high speed connection and get all the updates he needs. He's Windows 10 two versions behind, soon to be three, so he is using a critically out of date system and of course that puts his security at a danger level too.

I think we both hit the send button at about the same time. No we didn't, I just noticed my message was sent 21 minutes before your yours and yours posted before mine.

I do not wish to offend anyone by this but those of us who signed up for Windows 10 Home did so knowing that updates would be automatic. Many of us were not happy with this, I was one of them but now am perfectly happy with auto updates which have caused me no problems. So, knowing auto updates were part of the deal it follows on that having sufficient bandwidth to accomodate these updates is a prerequisite for using the OS. Refusing or delaying updates by means of third party apps is in effect breaking the contract agreed upon with Microsoft. Any problems encountered as a result of this is the fault of the user. Sure, there have been reported problems caused by updates but these are likely to be fewer than those caused by not keeping the OS up to date and secure. Living in a country where broadband costs are very high I am not unsympathetic to those for whom capped data is a necessary reality. It is for me too but I do have enough to run Windows 10with it’s auto updates. I knew this when I signed up and increased my allocation accordingly.

From the attachments I posted it looks to me like the updates downloaded but won't install. I will be at a place where I can try the downloads again tomorrow. BUT, if they won't install then what do I do. At one time a popup stated that I had to uninstall Macrium Reflect to be able to install. I have not found MR anywhere on my puter.

DICK Dick, you cannot worry about messages that you no longer see, like the Macrium Reflect message. Don't borrow trouble. If you no longer see it then forget about it. Tomorrow totally turn off your anti-virus and keep it off. Sometimes that will interfere with updates. Don't worry about tomorrow until tomorrow. We cannot give advice on speculation of what might happen. We can only give advice on what Does happen. This place where you can try the downloads is this a high speed connection? Will you be the only one using it? Can you give several hours to this? It may take several hours...or more. We don't know what updates you actually DO have installed. You are TWO versions behind we know for sure so you need those updates before anything else really.

I'm pretty sure they have high speed. (My sis & family--we are here, DC area, for a wedding). If I have to leave it there overnight I will do that.
Thanks Judy, DICK

You might want to run the windows update trouble shooter before you try the update to see if it finds any issues

It is downloaded again but install stops at the "Macrium Reflect" message. I have searched my puter again and cannot find it. Did the search and all that came up was web links--nothing on my puter. Will do the troubleshooter as suggested. Attachments:

Then it HAS to be someplace on your computer. How did you search for it? Did you go to My Computer, "C" drive and look through Programs and or Programs (x86)?
Web links? Where are these web links located? If you don't have it on the computer then why would there be web links? Do you go to Macrium Reflect a lot?
