I have always used CCCleaner but now I've been reading that it is not safe to use. I've noticed that it is showing a lot more cookies being removed than it used to, and a lot of my bookmarked sites won't load. My computer is acting different since I've been away. One problem at a time, so should I still use the CCCleaner?
Sincerely, Nova

Please give use the link that said CCleaner is unsafe. Why are you having it remove cookies? If you have it removing cookies then that is why you cannot get into your bookmarked sites. 1st party cookies are what helps you get to your bookmarked sites. I have never used it to remove cookies. If you have your browsers set correctly to keep 1st party cookies and BLOCK 3rd party cookies then Look at the attachments to see correct settings for CCleaner. Please note, NO cookies marked for removal. Internet Cache and/or Temp files only. Is this the same computer referenced in this thread Window Update?
If so it would have been polite to let people know in that thread exactly what happened and if things were fixed. If so then how? Many people come here daily to read posts for help for their own computers. If people who have posted for help then just don't say anything about what helped their problem others are not being helped and it makes the people who take the time to offer help feel they may have wasted their time. Thank you for telling me how to use CCCleaner and not removing cookies. I will fix it now.
I don't have a link telling me that CCCleaner was not safe to use. I had a sign pop up on my computer giving an alert to contact Microsoft about cleaning this malware from my computer and the number to call was 866-203-9964. I called the number and they acted like they were scanning my computer and showing me everything as they went, when I suspected something was not right I hung up and used my daughter's cell phone to call the number and it was a scam. Then I searched to see if Microsoft was saying it was not a safe program and it also said it was not safe and added more spyware. I'm going to start a new thread to see what to do if I suspect my computer has been hacked.
I'm very sorry I didn't get back to the other posts but life hit us pretty hard right after I made those posts, with two tragic deaths of young family members, and I didn't use this computer for awhile during that time.

You are correct saying this is a scam. Remember, Microsoft will NEVER cause a pop up on a computer saying there is a problem of some kind and you need to call a number. Microsoft also will NEVER call you on the phone and tell you there is a problem with your computer (this is another very common scam) Just give it a bit of thought with the millions of computers all over the world online at a given time how and why would Microsoft be able to zero down on just one computer in Missouri and pop up on your computer and tell you that CCleaner is a bad program? The answer is they couldn't and they wouldn't. You are probably right, your computer has either been hacked or you have a whole lot of malware on your computer which also can take control of your computer. You DO need to create a brand new thread but it needs to be created in the Virus and Malware Help section. Begin by completing the instructions in the Preliminary Cleanup Steps
Have each program CLEAN/Quarantine. Then copy/paste the logs produced by Malwarebytes' and AdwCleaner. Then we can go from there.

I am having more bad luck with trying to get this done. A quick question before I lose internet service again, am I suppose to have CCleaner clean the registry too? I haven't been doing that. I'm trying to get AdwCleaner downloaded because I don't have that program but so far my internet is down more often than it is up. I'll be back when I can.

am I suppose to have CCleaner clean the registry too? NEVER use any registry cleaner. Good quality and well respected malware removers like Malwarebytes' and AdwCleaner WILL clean malware entries in the registry and they will do that automatically. There is never any reason to clean the registry, ever. That is one of the easiest ways to toast a computer. Unless you are a highly trained, technical expert, the general instruction is it is rarely ever necessary to clean the resgistry. I suggest you read this Excellent information from Ask Leo concerning registry cleaning.
Also: Read his information about CCleaner which he has always highly recommended and still does. Note he does speak about the registry cleaning portion of the program but pay very close attention to exactly what he says: You do still need to post that log. Please create a new thread as instructed earlier. This must be done in the Virus and Malware Help section AdwCleaner should download in less than 30 seconds. Have you always had internet connection problems ?

My internet company is CableAmerica. Living out in the country we don't have a lot of choices and do seem to have more than our share of problems. It's doing a little better today. I'm hoping to get more done on this post today.
