Got it thank you. Is this app ok to run without advice? I have run a scan and it shows 1 PUP................do I remove it? A PUP Is malware and must be removed. Full instructions on how to run AdwCleaner correctly, because it is slightly different than other tools, can be found in our Preliminary Cleanup Stepsand it is step #6. Key thing is this, If the scan shows clean then you are done and can close the tool. BUT if malware is found then THERE ARE TWO STEPS REQUIRED do NOT close the tool but continue with the second step. You run the tool using the Scan button, once the scan is complete you'll be shown what has been found AND the Scan button changes to CLEAN button. Immediately hit that button and the program will clean the computer AND the program will reboot the computer. This is required in order to complete the cleaning. Do not do it yourself. Once the computer has fully rebooted a log will automatically pop up and show you what has been cleaned. Depending on what that might be other steps may be required.

The only reason I was hesitant was that I thought I remembered it being said that this app should only be used with support from Judy.
To my knowledge, I have not used Ask Jeeves for years. No idea where the PUP came from.

The only reason I was hesitant was that I thought I remembered it being said that this app should only be used with support from Judy. To my knowledge, I have not used Ask Jeeves for years. No idea where the PUP came from. For many years since development in 2011 official and approved copies of AdwCleaner were only available through BleepingComputer via the French developers, who went by the single name Xplode. Because they worked soley on their own in testing & development they preferred, for users safety, that it be a "use only when directed to do so by a helper" tool. The rules and directions given, at that time, for usage here, MPC and at WS were not written personally by me but were direct word for word copies from those given during that time at BleepingComputer. Those same directions could also be found, word for word, along with the BleepingComputer download link, , on most computer forums with malware removal sections. When it was acquired by Malwarebytes' 18 months ago the two developers also joined the team at Malwarebytes' as engineers and researchers. Research, development & testing came much faster and on a larger scale and it was finally deemed that it was a safe tool for regular users to add to the "tools to use" list and the "use only when directed by helper" portion of the instructions was removed. Also in the past the directions told you to immediately remove the tool from the computer once it had been used and if needed again a brand new copy was necessary. Now of course that is not the case, you can keep the tool and use it more than once. The Ask Jeeves being there is indeed odd because there is no more Ask Jeeves really, it goes by Ask and it is very often flagged as questionable or malware because it's toolbar is often added to browsers without permission via a bundler with other downloads.
